We are the Burners! A review of Justice League International #10

Sorry this is a bit late. Lets just say I have been trying to rule to world. Meaning I rediscovered Civ 5. But I won’t leave you in the dark. Now again it pains me to write this knowing this title will soon met its end. But we must carry on and watch the JLI fight to save world. Plus Batman is there and how can you not love Batman?

Post contains spoilers

So the JLI is back from their little trip in Paris with the Firestorms which I did read but to be honest it is a disappointing title. Nothing big happened with the JLI plot so I saw no point in reviewing it. But now they are back in the states and things are not going to get any better. Now while they have O.M.A.C. and Batwing with them, they are still down four original members. Fire is still in a coma while Vixen and Ice are still recovering from major injuries. Also they are still all mourning over the passing of Rocket Red. But the storm is far from over. The heavy hitters are about to come out to play and things are not going to look well for the JLI.

Back home the team starts to get shaky again. Since they first formed it has been hard for the team to stay together. And of course now they have no leads on anything. Batman makes it clear that they need to go looking for the terrorists but Guy has other things on his mind. It seems despite all the changes in the New 52, Guy and Ice were together in some way in the past.

In Brooklyn we find out more about Lightweaver and the reasons for the attacks. It seems him and the others are just fighting the system that has screwed countless people over. Now they might be right that some parts of the world to screw people over, but killing and burning it all to the ground isn’t the best way to solve that. But despite the pleads from his twin brother who is in a rough part of his life Lightweaver goes to “save the world”

While Batman does his thing, the JLI sneaks into the hospital to see their recovering teammates. A few issues back they were actually kicked out of there because people believed they put the hospital in danger. Now Ice is out cold(Like that?) Vixen may never walk again and Fire is slipping deeper into her coma. Like I said before, things are not going well for the group. The visits will have to be put on hold however, Lightweaver is heading for Washington.

Now Breakdown has gathered all of his people to Washington for a massive attack. As they get ready, Lightweaver starts to have doubts but they are quickly put in check. It seems that each member of “The Burners” feels that they have been wronged in some way by the “system” As they get ready to leave for their attack they are cut off by the JLI. They have been on the ropes for a few issues now and have been looking for some pay back and a good fight.

Now while they all fight the girl Burner Intersek flies into the air. It turns out that her power can intercept any signal, alter any form of communication whether it sends or receives . That includes fiberweave circuitry or a power ring. By the time they realize what has happened it is too late. She takes control of both Guy’s ring and Boosters suit and uses it to make quick work of the team. She then turns Guy and Booster on each other and when the smoke clears all of the JLI is down. Breakdown plans to attack the Capitol building, but not before killing the JLI on the steps of it in front of hundreds of people.

So when JLI first came out I wasn’t sure about it. But after reading the first issue I was hooked. And since then I have enjoyed each issue but there has always been one problem I had. They are always getting their butts kicked. Now a hero can’t always win. If they always did it would just get boring very quickly. But with JLI by the time they finally won half of the team was taken out of the picture. And I get why DC put O.M.A.C. in there but he has added nothing to the story. the addition of Batwing could have been cool but the title is coming to an end in August.

It is one of those things were I just had higher hopes for. I really liked seeing lesser known heroes (At least to me) on a team working together but I guess I will just have to replace this with Team 7…if it is good. I just hope that JLI ends on a better note than Hawk and Dove, that had such a weak ending.
