The Conclusion of the Trinity War

“As you say on your world…the Butler did it.”

***Contains Spoilers for parts 4-6 of Trinity War***

Here it is the second part of my Trinity War review(here is part one). The Trinity War is over, and a new threat has emerged. I’m getting ahead of myself. I’ll do a brief recap of Justice League Dark #23, Justice League of America #7 and Justice League #23.

I guess Lex Luthor is allowed visitors in his super top secret, over the top prison. He is being offered complete freedom, but tells his lawyers to leave so he can the read the article about Superman and Dr Light. I thought that was a little dumb. Take the freedom dude, read the paper in your penthouse. I guess it is good he decided to stay because he is paid a visit by Pandora who thinks maybe he can open the box. Meanwhile Manhunter’s group “interrogates” Dr Psycho regarding Superman and learn that the Secret Society is involved and the Justice League learns the reason the JLA was formed, to fight them. Wonder Woman and her group arrive in time to stop Luthor from taking the box, but DIana is corrupted.

Wonder Woman attempted to destroy the box, but they all began to feel it’s corrupting effects and started fighting each other. Then Shazam showed up and grabbed the box. This was interesting because once he grabbed and yelled SHazam the effects were felt by every person connected to magic. When I say everyone I mean EVERYONE. Dr Fate was floored by it, yes the Dr Fate who is on Earth 2. What is more interesting is that at least Deadman(possibly everyone) saw everyone else affected(which is how they found Madame Xanadu). This also intensified the corrupting effects of the box. Constantine arrives and is able to pick up the box and teleport Zatanna and himself away. Zee was protected by a spell she cast and John is apparently already corrupted and knows how to handle the dark voices in his head.

In Justice League #23 we learn the truth about Pandora’s box and the Trinity War. When we first heard of the Trinity War so very long ago James and I thought it referred to Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Than we thought maybe it was a war between the three Justice Leagues. NO, according to Diana “The Trinity…it was about the number..the true number of evil. Three.” Apparently three is the evil number. Yeah, I don’t get it either.

Five Years ago(because that is another important number), a doorway to another Earth was opened and two people came through. It was Atomica and Alfred Pennyworth from Earth 3. DUN DUN DUN! Who is Atomica? You know her as the Atom, the Justice League of America’s double agent. Well, it turns out she is a triple agent(3 is evil) secretly working for the Crime Syndicate. The box is from Earth 3 and only someone from Earth 3 can open it and create a doorway back to Earth 3. Also the robotic part of Cyborg is secretly Grid and separates from Vic after the Crime Syndicate emerges.

Ultraman, Superwoman, Owlman, Johnny Quick, Power Ring and Deathstorm make up the Crime Syndicate, along with Grid and Atomica. A formidable threat, or is it. Granted Vic is hurt in a bad way, and there is a bunch of confusion, but the CS is facing off against the Justice League, the Justice League of America and Justice League Dark, plus Shazam, Pandora and the Question. Even with Superman ill from Kryptonite poisoning and Vic off line(too soon?) they have Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, Aquaman, Firestorm, Elemental Girl, Vibe, Catwoman, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Star Girl, Katanna, Green Lantern, Black Orchid, Zatanna, John Constantine, Frankenstein, Deadman, and Steve Trevor. That makes it 23 to 8. So the Earth 1 team has the Earth 3 team out numbered almost 3 to 1. Again, I know that there is still a lot of confusion, but it looks pretty good for our heroes.

There is no explanation as to how the box got to Earth 1 in the first place. I guess that all evil on Earth comes from Earth 3? since the seven sins emerged from the box and began all of the bad. Another thing that is confusing is that in Pandora #2 she killed Envy, so does that mean Envy no longer exists in the world? or has the infection already taken hold? I am guessing these questions might not be resolved, or at least not resolved soon.

Overall I am disappointed with Trinity War. It was short, the title was misleading and over all I found it lacking. I think a big part of it is the reason that the JLA was formed. They never stood a chance of taking out the Justice League. Hopefully now they can all band together and take out the Crime Syndicate.
