Prison break Spider-Man: A review of Avengers vs X-men #9

This is by far one of the best AvX issues. That and I just love Spider-man and this issue just goes to show you that he is one of the best heroes out there.

Post contains spoilers

The Avengers have really been taking a beating the last few issues, but they might finally have a chance to turn the tables. While they are ‘safe’ moral and troops are starting to run short. Each time they come back from a mission more of them and hurt or missing. To make things worse, they just lost Thor. With him gone, they are really starting to lose hope that they can win this thing. Hope starts to get sick of people getting hurt, this is her fight and she wants to fight it. Spider-man lets her know that in time she will get her chance. That is what being an Avenger is all about. It is a big group and everyone does their part to make it work. But is that really enough?

Back on Earth, the X-men start to worry. All their dreams were coming truth but now it has become sick and twisted. They always dreamed of a world they could live in and not fear being a mutant. But now their leaders have started hunting people they used to they called friends. It might be times to join forces with the Avengers. The Phoenix Force came as a gift but it is starting to become a curse. Namor was the first of them to snap, but it is only a matter of time before one of the other Phoenix Five goes to far. A group of X-men have a plan to help chance the tables. It is time for a prison break.

Professor X and Storm join a team of Avengers to save the others from Magik’s prison. They get in without much trouble but once they are in they might not get out. Just as they get ready to save everyone. Colossus and Magik show up. All hell breaks loose in Limbo. Even with the large numbers, Colossus and Magik are too much. With Namor failing, his power has now gone to them. Before it is too late, Spider-man sees that not everyone will come back from this mission. He webs everyone away and causes a cave in. He stays behind to hold off Colossus and Magik while the others get away.

Now I want to go on a side bar real quick because I feel a lot of people overlook Spider-man and I won’t stand for it. Almost ever week a new comic comes out show the brilliance that is Peter Parker. This issue goes to show one of the best Avengers in action. He might not be a super soldier or be a living god but he is a god damn hero. To see the beating that he takes to makes sure the Avengers are good and gone is amazing. He fully knows that he could die here, but he believes in what he fights for.

And back to the story! While Spider-man has been beaten to a pulp, he still manages to really save the day…kind of. While he is bleeding out, Magik and Colossus argue if they should kill him or not. Since his date with Shadowcat, Colossus has been troubled by what they are doing. Namor showed them that even gods can fall from grace. Now both Magik and Emma have shown signs of slipping. Spider-man can see this and tricks Colossus and Magik on each other. They know that Namor’s power went to them when he fell so what happens if one of them bests the other. With that, the whole place goes boom!

In an attempt to defeat each other, both of them get knocked out. Now while this should be a win, it now mean that Scott and Emma have taken their powers. When this all started, the five of them were incredibly power. Now that power is shared between two of them. Cyclops has come to K’un Lun to bring Hope home. But does she really want to go with him? We will have to wait and see!
