Review of Batman #18

“Batman doesn’t get to die.”

Remember Harper? that street-wise tech-savvy girl from issue #12? No? Well, there was this street-wise, tech-savvy girl named Harper who helped Batman back in issue #12. Anyway this issue shows Batman doing what he was doing in Batman and Robin #18, fighting crime, non-stop. Harper has been tracking his movements and has noticed that he hasn’t stopped, for days.

At first he lashes out at her attempts to get through to him, but eventually he realizes that he keeps going at that pace he will get killed by some back alley thug. As Harper points out to him, “Batman doesn’t get to die.” “You’re supposed to be an idea.” I found it interesting that she got through to him by going to see him as Bruce Wayne. She knew that Wayne funded Batman Incorporated and thought maybe Bruce could “talk to Batman”.

It was nice to see Harper again and also nice to see Batman starting to heal. I imagine the road will be long and difficult for him but as he mentions he does have his “associates” to watch Gotham for him so he can get some shut eye.
